International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3rd 2024

International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on December 3rd each year, aims to promote the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities.

Established by the United Nations in 1992, this day highlights the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of society.

The theme for 2024 is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future."

The theme this year reflects the current international political and policy context, in particular the Pact for the Future and the upcoming 2025 World Summit for Social Development, and the need to create momentum for achieving the 2030 Agenda. The theme seeks to amplify the centrality of the leadership role of persons with disabilities, in all of these efforts - from the global to the local.

By celebrating the contributions of individuals with disabilities and advocating for their rights, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities serves as a reminder of the need for continued efforts to create an equitable society where everyone can thrive.
